3rd Seiyuu Award a.k.a. the Kadokawa Show

I originally searched for the report only to see what Tomachan was wearing in the awarding.. not sure how I ended up doing this “sponsors check”.

I blame j1m0ne for not doing it this year, leaving me and my curiosity alone *sobs* But I’m not interested in hearing what the winners said in Anispa, I guess everyone would try to be polite and that sounds dead boring, right?

Pics and list of roles courtesy of Akiba Kakaku.

By “sponsors” I mean the companies listed as “joint sponsorship” in the official site, not mere supports in the longer lists below that. Which are: Tokyo Anime Center, Kadokawa, Shogakukan, Shueisa, Bunka Housou, and some NPO thing (Non Profit Organization? What kind of bullcrap is that?)

Best Male: Kamiya Hiroshi

Agency: Aoni Production
Roles: Natsume Takashi (Natsume Yuujincho), Itoshiki Nozomu (Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei), Tieria Erde (Gundam 00)
- Natsume Yuujincho is owned by Hakusensha, which is a corporate ally of Shogakukan. Gundam 00 clearly reeks of Kadokawa. Plus he was Mikael in (Kadokawa’s) Macross F, not listed but who doesn’t know that. Zetsubou-sensei is my hero, though.
- ..and because unlike Nakamura Yuuichi, Kamiya is not signed to Sigma 7 and will probably sell more postcards later.

Best Female: Kugimiya Rie

Agency: I’m Enterprise
Roles: Aisaka Taiga (Toradora!), Rokujou Miharu (Nabari no Ou), Shana (Shakugan no Shana II)
- Has it become a tradition that lead female winners should wear kimono?
- Kugimiya Disease: Virus T and Virus S are under Kadokawa. Hah.
- I’m speechless, really. Now they let her get the trophy? Shana should have won last year and FFS Toradora just started airing when the voting opened.

Best Supporting Male #1: Inoue Kazuhiko

Agency: B-Box
Roles: Nyanko-sensei (Natsume Yuujincho), Miyagi You (Junjou Romantica)
- I second that Nyanko-sensei deserves the award, but still Natsume is Shogakukan’s and everything about Junjou Romantica is gay Kadokawa.

Best Supporting Male #2: Sugita Tomokazu

Agency: Atomic Monkey
Roles: Raven (Hakushaku to Yousei), Leon Mishima (Macross F)
- Sugitomo totally PWNED the dress code! xD
- The only thing I remember about Hakushaku is Lydia (= weekly Nana dose, lol), and I didn’t even finish watching it. It’s published by Shueisha. Or possibly Raven is just there to fill up the list, while he was actually chosen (oops, voted?) for Leon (another Kadokawa)

Best Supporting Female #1: Endou Aya

Agency: Office Pac
Roles: Sheryl Nome (Macross F), Matsu (Sekirei)
- Similar treatment like what Kugimiya got last year *cries*
- Or maybe because, just like Hermione of Hayate no Gotoku, Alto-hime was the leading female of Macross F..

Best Supporting Female #2: Sawashiro Miyuki

Agency: Mausu
Roles: Kurenai Shinkurou (kure-nai), Shibasaki Asako (Toshokan Senso), Isone Kotoha (Yozakura Quartet)
- So Natsume is a lead character in Natsume Yuujincho, but Kurenai is NOT a lead character in kure-nai.. Hello?
- How could our too shy shy girl Tsugumi is not listed? Because kure-nai = Shueisha and Toshokan Senso = Kadokawa.

Best Rookie Male #1: Okamoto Nobuhiko

Roles: Kanzato Shin (Persona), Accelerator (To Aru Majutsu no Index)
Agency: Pro-Fit
- Debuted in 2006
- The certain magical index belongs to Kadokawa.

Best Rookie Male #2: Kaji Yuki

Agency: ARTSVISION
Roles: Hiizumi Akina (Yozakura Quartet), Finny (Kuroshitsuji)
- Debuted in 2006
- AMG graduate again! It does make a good marketing strategy to have your graduates be the best rookies EACH YEAR.

Both rookies rom Kaji Yuki (right) blog. Isn’t it a shame when the male winners blog more useful pics than the female?

Best Rookie Female #1: Asumi Kana

Agency: 81produce
Roles: Hirakawa Natsumi (Kyo no 5 no 2), Yuno (Hidamari Sketch ×365)
– Debuted in 2005

Best Rookie Female #2: Tomatsu Haruka

Agency: Music Ray’n
Roles: Sannomiya Shiho (Zettai Karen Children), Nagi (Kannagi)
- Debuted in 2007
- Listing Shiho above Nagi-sama just because ZKC is published by Shogakukan is blasphemy! Chika (Kyouran Kazoku Nikki) spoke more lines in one episode compared to Shiho in one season.

Best Singer: Nakajima Megumi

Agency: Stardust Pro (not a seiyuu agency)
Song: “Seikan Hikou” (Macross F)
- Nakajima likes wearing huge weird white hat. :P
- Macross again, yada yada. But if Mizuki Nana is really not allowed to collect the award every year, Seikan Hikou is the obvious pick.
- Good thing that the song is actually nice and doesn’t sound like loli schoolgirls buying sausages.

Best Personality: Kamiya Hiroshi

Radio Shows: Kamiya Hiroshi and Ono Daisuke’s Dear Girl ~Stories~ (JOQR), Macross F ○×△ (JOQR), Sayonara Zetsubou Housou (Animate-TV)
- Also known as “Best JOQR Radio” award.
- Or “Anything Other than KuroUsa” award, you name it.
- If they even bothered to allocate two awards each for certain categories to please everyone, how could Kamiya won two?!

Overseas Fans’ Award: Fukuyama Jun
Agency: Baobab

Roles: Lelouch Lamperouge (Code Geass)
- Does Jun think he’s an anime character or what?
- I don’t need to remind you that Code Geass is the Big K show, knowing it won two trophies 2 years ago.
- Boring choice but it’s the better one. ;) I guess your typical Harutard doesn’t even know this award exists.

Synergy Award: Astro Boy

- Shimizu Mari (Baobab) as Atom,
- Mizugaki Yoko (81produce) as Uran,
- Katsuta Hisashi (ARTSVISION) as Dr Ochanomizu

Tomiyama Kei Award: Yamadera Kouichi (Across Ent)
- Probably for his success in stealing Haikyo people to join Across? lol

Service Award:
- Utsumi Kenji (KenPro president),
- Tomita Kousei (Baobab),
- Nagai Ichiro (Aoni Pro)

Special Service Award: Mutoh Reiko
- Died in 2006. Melmo in Marvelous Melmo, dubber for any Elizabeth Taylor movies.

The Red Carpet..

..but this is about the best we could get unlike last year. If they’re saving up the close-up shots for the DVD.. no, it won’t help the sales. :P

Notes.
- Congratulating the Rookie Award for being much cleaner than the previous years, with no AMG graduates (cmiiw). But no worries, we’ll get one again if Maeno wins next year, lol.

Read j1m0ne’s comment. LOL +1.

- Only taking the main awards into account, the agencies are well-spread with no apparent duplicates. The names are not much different from previous years’ though.. Baobab, 81pro, Aoni, I’m Enterprise, Mausu.

- Also we’re still left with the Nakamura mystery. :-/ Judging from the 2ch reactions, I believe he actually has the most votes.

- Still doesn’t change the fact that almost all winners reeks of corporate collusion.

- Well I think it’s safe to say I give up voting this award.., it’s not like they count our vote or anything.

HURRAAHHH for Fukuyama Jun’s International award! I’m glad he won instead of a certain “someone” we’ve been expecting.

And yes, Sugita Tomokazu totally pwned the dress code. XD

OtaAggs last blog post.. Claymore shock!

  2. r r says:

Kugyuu looks cute in a kimono and is it just me or does Miyukichi’s hair not look completely horrific for once……… (゜ロ゜)ï¼

IT’S ALL RIGGED. Nakamura Yuuichi! Tamura Yukari! щ(゚Д゚щ)

Argh, and Sugita in Hakushaku to Yousei wasn’t anything special. The cat in that show is better than Raven could ever be as both a character and the acting. So, a pity award for him not getting an award for Kyon yet. It all makes sense!

I’d try to listen to that Kamiya/Ono-D radio show if it didn’t sound as BL-errific as it does or maybe Yukarin just warped my mind on the whole Kamiya/Ono-D thing. Still, two awards in one go is pretty lame. I wouldn’t have been as sad if Yukar- I mean, if Ono-D also won the award since it looks like a two man show.

Now I’m left wondering if I’m the only one who voted Hayami Saori for best singer.

  3. issa-sa issa-sa says:

Somehow, the winners still leave me as confused as when I was trying to figure out if that mismatched pants leg in SugiTomo’s pic was really his or not…

issa-sas last blog post.. What the Hetalia? (My ‘Happy’ Hetalia Family)

  4. Rainbow66 Rainbow66 says:

    where nana ???

    ^^

  5. j1m0ne j1m0ne says:

GJ with the coverage, saves me the trouble of pissing over all the awards like I normally do. erm yeah I was desperate enough to find out the results that I managed to get hold of a dial-up connection while I’m on holiday.

but i gotta say… hooray no hirano aya – fukujun is rather dubious (srsly I cant believe the Chinese, Taiwanese & HK otaku would vote for him? or maybe they dont know enough english to vote) but he’s just A-OK by me.

Hey Kaji Yuki is an AMG grad. Just surprised that they passed over Maeno for him this year. Let’s not forget that AMG is in 81produce Group, which is what made it possible for Asumi Kana to win (Kato Emiri & Kakky were also 81p) – if she was still on V&H with Inoue Marina she wouldn’t get a look in.

And Nakamura will never ever ever win even if he licks the panel’s toes or whatever.

and yeah….going back on holiday mode for a few more hours now :P

  6. ZhakuRo ZhakuRo says:

    Wow…
Now i rmb who that Sayonara zetsubou Sensei is…lol I kept forgetting faces…oh well, at least he won…but why 2? no fair…greed -.-

    Rie Rie win…I didn’t expect Shana again…haiz…

I’m fine with Endou Aya and Sawashiro Miyuki to win the Best Supporting Female.

    Rookie for Asumi Kana!! *SAIKOU~~~*

    The Overseas vote sucks!! hahaha

    Hooray no Aya…hahaha XD

  7. anony mouse anony mouse says:

Wooo Kugimiya Rie won! She’s great. I like her role as Kagura from Gintama best, though.

    Sugita!! Woot!

Best Singer: Nakajima Megumi?? Seriously? o.o … Not that they have a lot of singer seiyuus, though.

Fukuyama Jun wining the overseas award is a good, predictable but boring choice.

  8. danie~ danie~ says:

@r: The show should be about girls’ love problems and whatnot. They can’t give the award to 2 persons, just like how Masumin got the trophy for Anispa and Washizaki got .. totally ignored.

Hayami can sing, but her vocal is forgettable + need better songs.

@j1m0ne: Thanks for the AMG correction.
Well it feels a bit fishy that Jun wins over Aya (or any female seiyuu for that matter), since CG didn’t try to exploit the seiyuu at all. Maybe they just decided it upon the fact that CG R2 DVD sells good internationally.
And I’m still wondering what grudge the panel has on Sigma7?

@anony mouse: Well there’s Sakamoto Maaya that stood out last year, but her connections are off. :P

  9. r r says:

I totally forgot about the first personality award winner. Poor Washizaki. I guess they can’t handle the chin?

I like Hayami’s voice and she does need better songs. Just makes me argh in jealousy when she’s only a year younger than me, I guess.

  10. hashi hashi says:

These “all rigged” comments seem even less justified this year than last. Spread of agencies, spread of publishers. I mean, Sugita is with a tiny agency called Atomic Monkey. And Sawashiro’s Mausu is hardly a big agency. What about the idea that it was mainly a popularity contest and the public’s votes determined most winners, just massaged a bit at the edges by the committee to spread the wealth?

In my opinion, KugiRie didn’t deserve to win for Shana, but she did for Taiga, which is a far better role and performance. Hirano didn’t deserve to win for anything she did in 2008, but she did deserve to win for what she did in 2007 and 2006. In any case, I still think “popularity contest” explains a lot. I voted for Koshimizu Ami, as Horo.

Anyway, I hope Hayami Saori gets some good songs this year and we can see her up there next year. Her voice is the furthest thing from “forgettable” I can imagine. Subtle, lyrical, musical and dynamic are adjectives that spring to mind.
