Warning: A filler post that has absolutely nothing to do with Mizuki Nana, besides well, the name “Nana”.
So yeah for personal reasons I’m now in Bangkok for a few days. This is my first-ever visit; the trip is so sudden and I know nothing about Thailand, besides spicy food and lol traps.
That, until I saw Bangkok’s map and found this train station called (you guessed it) Nana (นานา in Thai), located only 1 station away from where I stay. The fangirl in me managed to sneak out after dinner to check it out. So I walked to the area happily..
..and I knew I’m on the right block when I saw that sign at the corner. ( ;A; ) So I entered the alley..
..and I saw countless stalls lining along the street! Look, Nana Mini Mart LOL. Kyaa~xD This must be Nana Night Market, written in the tourist map as the main attraction around there.
However, my excitement was soon crushed when I saw what came next.
Apparently Nana’s real attraction is this Nana Entertainment Plaza, a freakin’ red-light district.. and not just a random one, it’s the largest sex complex in the world. Foly huck.
The street was full of Thai girls “waiting” and European tourists– some began “konnichiwa”-ing me out of nowhere. I started to have cold sweats. T__T
But oh well already there, so I took a bit more photos.
Conveniently located right across the Plaza.
..does that mean extra cheese/bacon/egg = free?
Many people (tourists & locals) were staring at me, because I was really the odd one, hanging around a sex district to take random pictures. ^^; I quickly GTFO the alley, and then realised the big building across the main street looks more interesting (and way safer).
Nana Square! It’s opposite the street, but on the way back anyway.
Looks like a really crappy mall. Oh well, kinda wanna see that Nana Corner place, but it was already closed.
I wasted 15 Baht (only 50 cents!!) for a skytrain home..
..or to be exact, just to enter this Nana Station.

.. and safely back to the hotel (thank goodness)!
Overall it was an interesting experience, I have never seen so many real “Nana” stuff in one place. Tho I ended up more scared than impressed. ^^; But hey, now I know how to write Nana in Thai lol..
Additional note.
Nana-chan’s Nana is written นานะ instead of Nana-the-place (นานา) because of the way it sounds (Thai language has tones). Thanks Hypernova for the info!

Since I’m Thai that happen to see this post, I want to let you know that “Nana” in Mizuki Nana should be written “นานะ” instead of “นานา” from the way it sounds.
Hope you have good time there (I’m not physically in Thailand when typing this).

@Hypernova: Ah yeah I just checked Thai wiki for Nana.. I never knew Thai alphabet has soooo many vowel sounds. ^^; Will take forever to memorize that lol. Thanks for the info!

@Feleste: No I don’t think the difference is that big, I heard someone said “Nana” just like our “Nana”.. นานา repeats the same “Na” sound, but นานะ is used for Mizuki Nana because Thai has many vowel sounds, unlike Japanese :-/ and I’ve clearly said this has nothing to do with Nana.

Hilarious post, I can only imagine how you felt when you started to realize ppl were staring at you while you took pictures of them making a deal with a hooker xD. (yes, I know that wasn’t the case, it’s funny to imagine it though)

lol, I went to Lebanon this summer and also saw several “Nana” places XD (stuff like Nana Pharmacy or Nana Shoes). The most interesting though was a women pads brand name called Nana :p Was tempted to take pics, but then I figured my mom would honestly start thinking I went bonkers XP
P.S. Just realized it might’ve been a good idea to actually buy one of the pads packs… Wouldn’t have looked that weird really, since I’m a girl after all =x

I almost had a heart attack seeing the title of this post, thinking that I might actually have the chance to stalk Nana-chan or that I might have missed her being in the same country again (like when she went to England). XD

As I live in Bangkok, I almost jump off my desk and go to Nana sky-train station when I first saw the title LOL.
Adding to Hypernova’s comment, there are short and long vowels in Thai. So, นานา (place) is pronounced NAA-NAA, while นานะ (name) read NAA-NA. The latter has no meaning in Thai.
Just FYI, นานา means いろいろ or miscellaneous.

@danie~ Erm, it’s actually a common nickname, rather than proper name. Eg. I have a cousin called Nadine, but we all call her Nana :p (which was pure lolz this summer for me XD calling someone Nana was… weird ^^;)

@Re-Hikari: I know, I have a good friend I’ve known for over 10 years whose nickname is also Nana. And my fave manga is Yazawa Ai’s Nana even before I know Mizuki Nana. This must be fate.
