Nana Mizuki Live Formula DVD review: Disc 1

Even Konata and Kagami are happy with the nice packaging~

FINALLY I got my DVD last Friday. I swear I will NEVER use airmail again for any Nana-related things. I saved a few bucks but was mentally damaged for the whole week.

Anyway, the DVD totally worth the wait (no wonder it topped the Oricon chart). I’ve lost count how many times I’ve re-watched it (I skipped sleeping this weekend~ xD). I wonder why my housemates haven’t kicked me out of the house for looping this through the night.. ^^;

And I really liked the audio commentary. Although my Japanese is on par with Hirano Aya’s English (read: terrible), I grasped few interesting things.. I’ll add some of them in the review.

Without further due, here I present you a very biased track-by-track review of Mizuki Nana Live Formula DVD, disc 1..

– OPENING
Surprise! Nana-chan spoke English O_o; it was cute though. And guess who was the guy who did the narration? It’s Kevin J. England, the voice of Bardiche, lol~
Hm, not sure how many people were there, but it surely broke her Live Museum record (of 12k, IIRC). Stage settings looked good, wonder how they will set it for Animelo 2008~

01 Bring it On!
The first time I heard the song in Great Activity, I knew it would be perfect to open a concert~ and so it did.

02 Secret Ambition
She waved the heavy-looking mic stand for a while~ never knew she’s that strong. O_o;

– MC 1
After the energetic welcoming, she said she went pass Mt Fuji and prayed for the concert’s success (she looked rly cute. I’m not giving screencaps xD). Then she introduced a new Cherry Boys member, bass & percussion: Fukunaga Masao (Cho-san).

03 ファーストカレンダー First Calendar
Somehow reminds me of NAKED FEELS in Live Universe, the way she sits in the stairs looking cute xD I was quite amazed how she copied the movements from her clip (shown on the big screen).

04 フリースタイル Freestyle
Definitely the cutest performance in this live~ the song was one of my fave from Magic Attraction. Look at the neko-mimi hat, so cute. Also loved how she danced…

..especially this one!

05 RUSH&DASH
Woot, Livedom Birth opening in better costume :p She ran and jumped a lot (Nana complained in the commentary that it was really hot in that costume, lol)

– Cherry Boys
I was really surprised all members did a dance sequence. o_O; In order of dance appearance:
(1) Yutapon (Watanabe Yutaka, drums), (2) Cho-san, (3) Kenny (Kitajima Kenji, guitar), (4) Tom-kun (Oohira Tsutomu, keyboard –Nana said in the commentary that he was really cute, I couldn’t agree more, lol), and (5) Itaruvic (Watanabe Itaru, guitar). (6) Ryutan (Sakamoto Ryuta, bass) didn’t dance like usual, heh.

06 chronicle of sky
Yay, ear-mic = dancing sessions! Nana-chan said she looked like a ‘tetsujin’ (metal-man) from game/anime, maybe the silver costume and robotic movements? ^^; She also mentioned that the dance sequences were pretty hard.

07 through the night
Done in the central stage. Way hotter than the previous skit (I’m not sharing the screencaps! xD) Suddenly I like this song.

– Team Yoda
Yay, it’s Team Yoda! They deserved an introduction! I only recognized Megu (she has long hair again), Mika (<3), and Hisayo. And another two but forgot their names. The short-haired girl must be new. But hey, where’s my Marie? >_< And oh, Ryu-tan (finally) joined the dance.

08 Pray
Beautiful dress. She looked like a goddess (she is!). The audience changed the light sticks to a mix of orange/blue, nice.

Nana’s all-time best song voted by fans (Nana Summer Festa). Awesome, as always.

– MC 2
The audience asked her to turn around to show off the dress. At first, Nana-chan teased the over-excited fans a bit (I also shouted “mawatte~” over here, lol), but she finally turned around, TWICE!

How come she’s so cruel? T_T

She’s not.

Next was introduction to the special guest: Agematsu Mika, arpa-ist. Apparently she went to the same high school with Nana-chan before she left to study arpa in Paraguay.

10 Heart-shaped chant
Words are not enough to describe the epicness of Nana and Mika. Hands down to the best performance of the night. m(_ _)m

– MC 3
Aa.. they hold hands again. How cute. Oh well, great job, Mika-chan! ^.^

11 ラストシーン Last Scene (acoustic)
Finally, the acoustic session! Nana-chan really showed what she’s capable of as a singer. It’s a very emotional song about break up, even her beloved Noto Mamiko cried when she first heard the song. I know I did.

She looked like she was about to cry too.

12 Crystal Letter (acoustic)
Simply beautiful, no wonder it was ranked #4 in her top 100 songs (Summer Festa). And Nana-chan playing harmonica? What a treat!

Less cooler than Birth’s piano, but still~!

– Break
As usual, the instruments continued while I was still drying my teary eyes. Kudos to Tom-kun, Itaru, and Cho-san.

*sobs*

13 Take a chance
Nana-chan popped out from the other side of the stage, bringing a sudden change from the mellow acoustic to high-spirited songs. Although she said she liked the costume (and she looked great), I think only Nana can wear it without looking like an idiot.. =_=;

14 POWER GATE
Finally, my favorite Nana live-song ^_^ Everyone in the hall was singing along, like usual. Actually, me too, er, a bit. (Heck, even Nana did that in the commentary~ xD)

15 SUPER GENERATION
Waa~ai, the first (and my favorite) Nana self-composed song. She looked like she had real fun, running/jumping here and there (..and to think this was the 15th song.. what kind of stamina was that?)

I’ve won marathons before.

– Break
Few minutes of Cherry Boys goodness. They’d be one of my favorite band if they had picked better name, lol. Again, numbered: (1) Itaru (and Mika-chan!) (2) Kenny (3) Tom-kun (4) Ryutan in the spotlight as usual (5) Yutapon (6) Couldn’t find a close-up Cho-san, so here’s 3 members and Mika-chan again. ^_^

And so, that was the amazing first disc~ xD Now it’s time to continue my Nana obsession and rewatch this again..
