Starry Tales Planetarium

Starry Tales is a new CG movie specially made for planetarium.
Of course I’m only interested because Nana narrated the whole thing.. why else would I go to such a family/dating spot alone .__.;

I watched Starry Tales first screening 1pm on 19 March 2011 in Ikebukuro Sunshine Planetarium. Country-wide screening starts in Spring. The initial 11am screening + autograph session with CG creator KAGAYA and composer Himekami was canceled.

I bought the ticket 2 hours earlier, and entered waiting lobby 30 mins before.. it’s free-seating so some people started queuing up to get better seats. I’m sure they’re Nana fans since I saw couples/families sitting in sofa looking confused. xD

After everyone’s seated, a special guest greeted us. It’s KAGAYA. He thanked us for coming to this premiere, and expressed concerns regarding Tohoku Disaster. The real reason why the signing event was canceled is that Himekami returned to his hometown in Iwate, one of the most affected prefectures. I hope his family is okay. =(

This isn’t Nana’s first planetarium work. She narrated a healing program in Manten Planetarium last year, and it was pretty boring I only remember it had stars and 2 Nana songs. ^^; No story whatsoever.

But Starry Tales was beautiful.

For the entire 40 mins, excellent CG quality and enchanting BG music. Plus, ORIGA from GitS/Kanno fame performed the theme song.

Starry Tales started with somekind of Astronomy 101, introducing about 10 famous constellations related to Greek mythology. I was too excited hearing Nana-sensei’s voice that I can’t recall what they exactly were… I will take notes when I rewatch this later (soon!). xD

The main story was based on Greek mythology. A goddess named Astraea had the Scale of Justice that weighs human’s heart, good and evil on each end. She watched over human in peace, but then Bronze Age wars started.. and Evil totally outweighed Good on her scale. Astraea got very disappointed and cried. Zeus talked her into giving up on earth. Btw Nana voiced Astraea too.

Astraea finally left earth and the Scale of Justice was abandoned. Zeus made it the constellation of Libra. I read that Astraea ascended to become Virgo, but it wasn’t in the story.

Personally I’m very happy because.. I’m Libra lololol Nana was telling MY zodiac’s storyyyyy yeah I’m that simple. xD

Will return for another Nana-sensei’s lesson, especially with Ladies Day discount in Weds. :3

I’m definitely glad that you were able to go visit this event… just watching the teaser, I am genuinely impressed with how all of the visual and aural elements coalesce. The CGI and the background music are, to say the least, incredibly enchanting. And it’s always great to hear Nana’s deep, mature voice. It’s classy and sophisticated yet… interesting… at the same time… ~:-) I hope for all the very best for KAGAYA and Himekami as well.

I guess it makes sense for Nana to tell the story of the Libra zodiac sign… after all, she is an Aquarius, an air sign just as ours is (I’m also a Libra ^_^).

I hope you have fun the next time you go… normally planetariums are fairly dull, but I’d be pretty perked throughout a visit if Nana’s voice were emanating and resonating from the sound system. <:-)

I watched the trailer for this sometime ago (Cos I found out Nana is involved LOL) but I wasn’t sure what it’s really about… NOW I REALLY WANNA WATCH T.T Ah never mind…

And wow, I’m a Libra too…. 1st Oct =D Anymore Libras around here? LOL LOL

  3. Etherlite Etherlite says:

ORIGA! I almost forgot about her lol

will they make BD/DVD for this? kinda curious…

and while I’m not libra, my birthday is just 2 days after Nana’s xD (yes, that makes me an Aquarius too)

Ah, 4 days away from being a Libra, shucks. Can’t share in all these warmy, fuzzy feelings.

But wait…Nana voiced my sign! Lololol

I was under the assumption it was just a normal kind of planetarium thing with Nana narrating a bunch of stars and their backgrounds (kind of like that healing program), but much cooler to find out it’s an actual story.

Wish my local science center had CG planetarium shows…all we have are laser shows and IMAX. :(
